Mortgage Loan Originator Continuing Education
Questions & Answers
What are my continuing education requirements?
Florida mortgage brokers, and the principal representatives and loan originators of a mortgage lender or correspondent mortgage lender must complete at least 14 hours of continuing education during the 2-year licensing period.
Of the 14 Hours of Continuing Education, 4 hours must cover the provisions of Chapter 494 of the Florida Statutes and the rules adopted under this chapter.
How much does it cost to renew my Florida Mortgage Broker License?
A nonrefundable renewal fee of $150 must accompany your online license renewal submission. You must complete your renewal online at the Florida Office of Financial Regulation REAL System website.
If you do not renew by the end of the 2 year licensing period, your license shall revert from active to inactive status. An inactive license may be reactivated within 2 years after becoming inactive by completing a reactivation form at the REAL System website, and paying both the $150 renewal fee and the $100 reactivation fee. A license that is not renewed within 2 years after becoming inactive automatically expires.
Is continuing education required before my first license renewal?
Yes. The continuing education requirements are waived only if you completed your 24 License Course between June 1, 2009 and August 31, 2009.
Do I submit my continuing education certificate to the Office of Financial Regulation?
No. You will be required to certify at the time of renewal that you have satisfied the continuing education requirement. You are responsible for maintaining copies of the certificates of completion for four years.
Larson Educational Services, a Southwest Florida Mortgage Business School, will submit your continuing education course completion information to the FLOFR for you.
