Step-by-Step Licensing Guide

To expedite the licensing process for the MLO License, there are several steps you should begin immediately:

1. Create an account in NMLS.

After completing this process, you will receive two emails from NMLS_Notifications@statemortgageregistry.com. The first contains your User Name and the second contains your temporary password.

You must also provide authorization for the NMLS to obtain a credit report and provide fingerprints for an FBI criminal history background check.

2. Enroll for test in NMLS.

Before you can schedule an appointment for a test, you must first create a test enrollment and pay the corresponding fee in NMLS. Log in to NMLS by using the User Name and Password provided to you in the email you received from NMLS when you created your account. You will be prompted to create a new Password.

3. Schedule an appointment for the test.

To schedule a test appointment, contact the test provider that is conveniently located to your home or office. You can view test locations and schedule an appointment by clicking below.

4.* Complete 20 Hour SAFE Comprehensive Mortgage Loan Originator Course.

NMLS requires that all MLO License applicants complete this course as a pre-licensing requirement.

*The State of Florida will certify current Florida Mortgage Broker license holders as having completed this requirement as long as the applicant has completed at least 20 hours of State approved mortgage education prior to October 1, 2010, and as long as they apply through NMLS no later than November 30, 2010.
