What is Mutual Recognition
Mutual Recognition is the term for the agreement between the state of Florida and ten (10) other states whereby an individual with a VALID, CURENT REAL ESTATE LICENSE in ONE OF THESE 10 states may apply his or her real estate education and experience to obtaining an equivalent license in Florida.
How to qualify:
- APPLICATION
- Submit an application to the DBPR either when the license in the other state* or territory is active.
- Submit a current Certification of License History from the state you are claiming experience from.
- Applicant can NOT be a resident of Florida at the time of application.
- FINGERPRINTS
- Florida requires fingerprints be taken in order to run a criminal background check.
- Submit your fingerprints using a Livescan Service Provider registered with FDLE after submitting your application for licensure.
- EXAMINATION
- Once approved for the state exam, you will receive an “Authorization to Test” email notification from Pearson VUE that you are able to test.
- Pass the Florida Real Estate Laws & Rules Exam by correctly answering at least 30 of the 40 questions (75%).
- HOW TO SUBMIT APPLICATION and FINGERPRINTS
- Go to our How to Obtain a License page for all the application and fingerprinting details.
*NOTE: Applicants must have obtained the Real Estate license by having met the education and examination requirements of the state with which Florida has mutual recognition. Licensees cannot claim mutual recognition if they obtained their license, in the mutual state, by reciprocity.
The 10 recognized states are:
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Connecticut
- Georgia
- Kentucky
- Illinois
- Mississippi
- Nebraska
- Rhode Island
- West Virginia
Alabama and Arkansas broker license applicants need 2 years of experience in the past 5 years as a real estate broker.
